Apex Acupuncture and Wellness, LLC was started in 2016 by Sara Johnston, Dipl.O.M., L.Ac. Sara has an undergraduate degree in Biology, and graduated in 2004 from Southwest Acupuncture College in Boulder, CO with a 4-year degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. Immediately upon graduation, she studied at the prestigious Beijing Hospital of TCM in China. Sara has practiced acupuncture and herbal medicine since 2005 in the Denver area. She is a well-rounded practitioner with years of experience treating many different conditions, and specializes in orthopedics, fertility, headaches, TMJ, and esophageal reflux.

Sara’s journey with acupuncture began after having low back surgery from a sports injury at age 21. After a successful surgery and finishing her undergraduate degree, she hiked part of the Appalachian Trail, but noticed that her back pain and radiations down her leg still bothered her at times. She tried acupuncture, and was impressed that her pain was completely gone after several treatments. While working as a pharmaceutical chemist in 2001, Sara decided that she wanted to use her personal experience to help other people. She enrolled in acupuncture school and chose sports medicine as her specialty. Her knowledge base of anatomy and physiology, pharmaceutical science, and eastern medicine is a potent trifecta for treating patients on a holistic level.

Sara’s main passion, outside her work, is her family. She and her husband enjoy spending time outdoors with their three kids, and can be found skiing, mountain biking, camping, or hiking on any given weekend. They are avid adventure travelers and usually have an international plan in the works to an undeveloped nation where they can hike mountains, eat some local food, and enjoy the rawness and beauty of the world and it’s people.
